Day 1
Day 1 Singapore to Zhangjiajie by Flight | Airport Pick-up & Hotel Check-in
oday, make your way to Changi Airport in Singapore for your direct flight to Zhangjiajie, a journey of about 4 hours and 40 minutes.
Upon arrival, welcome to Zhangjiajie City - home to the otherworldly landscapes that inspired the Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar! After clearing customs, your local guide and driver will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area (about 1-hour drive, 35 km).
Check in and take the evening to relax after your flight. Rest well tonight to prepare for the breathtaking adventures that await you in Zhangjiajie.
Day 2
Day 2 Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan Tour | From Zhangjiajie National Forest Park to Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve; Bailong Elevator, Hallelujah Mountains, Tianzi Mountain
After breakfast, we venture into Zhangjiajie National Forest Park within Wulingyuan Scenic Area to explore Yuanjiajie and witness the spectacular Hallelujah Mountain (South Sky Pillar / Qiankun Column). Following lunch, we transfer to Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve for a full sightseeing tour of Tianzi Mountain. Throughout the whole day, you will have plenty of time to soak in the stunning natural beauty of Wulingyuan, a breathtaking natural sanctuary dotted with more than 3,000 slender quartz sandstone stone pillars.
Morning: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park & Yuanjiajie
Our first stop is Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, China’s very first national forest park. It boasts one-of-a-kind terrain featuring uniquely shaped towering stone peaks, lush primitive vegetation and grand mountain landscapes. We will board a park eco-shuttle bus heading for Bailong Elevator, widely known as “the World’s No.1 Ladder”. This landmark holds three Guinness World Records as the tallest, fastest and heaviest open-air sightseeing elevator on the planet. It only takes 66 seconds to lift visitors 326 meters vertically from the valley floor straight up to the stone forest summit.
Next, hike into Yuanjiajie — the mysterious real-world prototype of Pandora from the blockbuster Avatar and home to the iconic Hallelujah Floating Mountains. Do not miss South Sky Pillar (also named Avatar Mountain), the famous floating peak standing at an altitude of 1,074 meters. This colossal vertical stone column rises roughly 150 meters straight out of the deep canyon, resembling a giant stone monument standing tall beneath the sky.
Take your time wandering along the 3,500-meter cliffside sightseeing trail strung with fluttering red blessing ribbons. Along the path, you will encounter a series of world-famous natural masterpieces: Backyard Garden, Vertigo Platform (widely recognized as Yuanjiajie’s top viewing deck), and World’s First Bridge Under Heaven — a natural stone arch that serves as Yuanjiajie’s symbolic landmark. As you marvel at the surreal vistas, you will also gain in-depth knowledge about Zhangjiajie’s sandstone peak forest landform. This extraordinary landscape was shaped by unique geological structures, crustal tectonic movements and long-term external erosion, forming an extremely rare geological spectacle unmatched worldwide.
Afternoon: Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve
We then take an eco-shuttle bus to our second scenic zone, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve. The mountain derives its name from Xiang Dakun (Xiang Tianzi), a chieftain of the local Tujia ethnic minority who proclaimed himself “Son of Heaven” in the early Ming Dynasty (1368–1644). Dubbed the “King of Peaks”, Tianzi Mountain represents the mature evolutionary stage of peak forest landforms and rose to fame as a fairy-tale shooting location for the classic Chinese TV series Journey to the West. Standing at 1,262 meters above sea level, it is celebrated for its spectacular five seasonal views: sunrise, sea of clouds, red moon glow, winter snow and fiery autumn maple leaves, plus boundless clusters of stone peaks.
Walk to Dianjiangtai Viewing Platform to overlook the mist-shrouded West Sea Peak Forest, where jagged rock spires surge out of the foggy canyon. You cannot skip the iconic Imperial Writing Brush Peaks: six stone pillars each around 100 meters high arranged neatly in a square formation. The pillars vary in thickness from top to bottom, perfectly resembling ancient Chinese writing brushes. Legend says they are the paintbrushes once used by Xiang Tianzi himself.
Later, stroll to He Long Park to visit the bronze statue of Marshal He Long alongside his warhorse, then ascend to the 30-meter-tall Tianzi Pavilion. From the pavilion’s top floor, you can enjoy a full unobstructed panoramic view of endless rolling peaks stretching to the horizon — a truly breathtaking sight. Once the day’s sightseeing wraps up, we will head back to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Important Note
During peak tourist seasons, your local guide may reverse the visiting sequence of Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain to bypass massive tourist crowds and shorten waiting time.
Day 3
Day 3 Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Tour | Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, Baofeng Lake
After breakfast, our private vehicle will transfer you from Wulingyuan to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. The journey covers around 56 kilometers and takes roughly 1.5 hours. Once we arrive, you’ll get to experience the stunning Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. After a hearty lunch, we’ll proceed to Baofeng Lake for a peaceful wooden boat cruise. We head back to downtown Zhangjiajie late in the afternoon.
Blessed with countless waterfalls and crisp, oxygen-rich valley air, Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon is an essential stop for photographers and adrenaline lovers. Its star attraction is the Glass Bridge — the world’s longest and highest glass-bottom bridge, suspended between two sheer cliffs. Measuring 375 meters long and 300 meters above the valley floor, this landmark was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan. Constructed predominantly from transparent glass with minimal steel frameworks, it can safely hold up to 800 visitors at once.
At the bridge’s center lies the world’s highest bungee jumping platform. Adventure fans can sign up for this thrilling activity at their own cost and enjoy the sensation of soaring through the gorge just like Spider-Man. Spending about one hour exploring the skywalk is well worth it, as travelers from all over the globe come to test their bravery here. Beneath the crystal-clear glass panels, you gaze straight down onto dense woodland and mist-shrouded ravines. Standing on the transparent surface creates an incredible floating-in-midair feeling, paired with sweeping panoramic views of the whole canyon. Step onto this glass skywalk and challenge yourself!
After the heart-stopping glass bridge experience, unwind your nerves at mirror-smooth Baofeng Lake. A shuttle bus will take you from the scenic entrance to the dock, where you board a traditional wooden sightseeing boat across this crystal alpine lake. Stretching 2.5 kilometers long, ranging from 200 to 1,000 meters wide and averaging 72 meters in depth, Baofeng Lake sits in a mountain basin ringed by green woods and distinctive stone peaks, forming a serene paradise. As you drift gently across the water, admire perfect mountain reflections rippling on the surface and listen to melodic ethnic folk songs sung by local minority performers.
When the lake tour finishes, we drive back to downtown Zhangjiajie, a 35-kilometer trip taking around one hour, then check into your hotel for the night.
Day 4
Day 4 Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain Tour | Tianmenshan National Forest Park, Cable Car, Tianmen Cave, Glass Walkway, Transfer to Fenghuang Ancient Town (Tuo River Boating)
Today’s half-day excursion takes you to Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, hailed as “the Soul of Zhangjiajie” and “the No.1 Sacred Mountain of Western Hunan”. Just 8 km from downtown Zhangjiajie, this scenic spot suits visitors of all ages with no strenuous mountain climbing required.
We begin with a 30-minute cable car ride stretching 7,455 meters straight from the city to the mountain summit. While ascending, soak in panoramic views of the legendary 99-Bend Road to Heaven twisting along steep cliffs, as well as delicate miniature peak landscapes resembling natural bonsai gardens.
Then get ready for an exhilarating cliffside adventure. Step onto the 60-meter Glass Skywalk suspended 1,430 meters above the deep valley; its transparent surface delivers an incredible sensation of walking mid-air. Continue along the 1.6 km Cliff-Hanging Plank Road clinging to mountain ridges for endless stunning mountain vistas.
You may choose to visit Tianmen Temple, a tranquil Qing Dynasty Buddhist temple wrapped in thick green woods. Alternatively, climb to Yunmenxianding (1,518 m above sea level), Tianmen Mountain’s highest peak, to overlook the entire mountain range from a bird’s-eye perspective.
Afterwards, ride a series of mountain escalators downhill to Tianmen Cave — the world’s tallest natural mountain arch with a height of 131.5 meters, also known as Heaven’s Gate. The huge cave is often wrapped in rolling mist or pierced by soft golden sunbeams, forming constantly shifting, dreamlike light-and-shadow scenes ideal for photography. You can either descend the famous 999 stone steps or take a convenient elevator before heading to the cable station to ride downhill.
Upon finishing Tianmen Mountain sightseeing, we will take a private 3-hour transfer covering 211 kilometers southwest to Fenghuang Ancient Town.
Fenghuang Ancient Town is a fairy-tale riverside gem resting beside the gentle Tuojiang River, renowned as one of China’s most photogenic ancient towns. The winding river flows past rows of wooden stilt houses, whose flawless reflections ripple across the glassy water just like an ancient Chinese ink wash painting. It also stands as an essential cultural hub for the Miao and Tujia ethnic minorities.
Arriving before dusk, you can wander cobblestone lanes lined with well-preserved Qing-dynasty architecture, full of fantastic photo opportunities. Iconic Hongqiao Bridge and mirror-like river reflections are unmissable shooting spots.
Once night falls, Fenghuang transforms completely. Countless glowing red lanterns light up riverside alleys, night markets and waterfront bars buzz with lively crowds, and warm lantern light shimmers across the river, dramatically enhancing the charm of the stilt house clusters.

This morning, wander freely around Fenghuang and dive deep into its profound cultural heritage at your own relaxed pace. Whenever Fenghuang Ancient Town is mentioned, Shen Congwen (1902–1988) immediately comes to mind — the celebrated Chinese litterateur and historian whose timeless novel Border Town brought this riverside ancient settlement worldwide renown.
Start your cultural journey at Shen Congwen’s Former Residence, the well-preserved ancestral house of this literary giant. Original manuscripts and personal belongings displayed inside reflect his inseparable bond with Fenghuang. A short stroll away stands the Ancient East Gate (Donghua Gate). Climb its 18th-century gate tower for sweeping panoramic vistas covering the entire old town and the Tuojiang River.
Your Fenghuang sightseeing cannot be finished without visiting Hongqiao (Rainbow Bridge), the town’s symbolic landmark. Lined with teahouses and handcraft stalls, it serves as an ideal shooting spot to capture stilt houses mirrored clearly on the river surface. After bidding farewell to Fenghuang Ancient Town, we will make a stop at Furong Ancient Town on our return trip to downtown Zhangjiajie. Get ready to explore the magical “Ancient Town Hanging on Waterfall” from all perspectives. One of a kind, this 2,000-year-old historic village features a grand waterfall rushing straight through its central area.
Renamed after the classic 1986 movie Hibiscus Town, Furong Ancient Town boasts distinctive charms: wooden cliff stilt houses clinging to green precipices, winding ancient stone lanes full of historic vibes, and authentic living Tujia folk culture shrouded in soft mist.
